Feeling Meh-ry, not Merry!

I don’t know what it is, but now Christmas has departed I am feeling a little on the meh side. Instead of revelling in the post Christmas delights of over eating and the Wizard of Oz, I am instead nursing a rather grand case of post Christmas blues.

In some ways this was not the relaxing break I had hoped for. I forgot that although I had a few days off work, things at home would be the same meaning the cooking and  the cleaning would carry on. So sadly do Mums mood swings. I try to stay calm, but sometimes it proves really difficult. I also remind myself daily to not take it personally, but that can also prove difficult.

Perhaps that’s the cause of some of the mehness. Most people look forward to the New Year and the chance to hypothetically start over with a clean sheet, while making promises to not make the same mistakes as the previous year. I’m a little bummed out because in the near future  it looks like the only thing in my future is more of the same. We’re sort of at a crossroads, where the situation is getting worse, but not to the stage where we can seek outside help. My Dad says not to worry and that things have a strange way of working out, but asking me not to worry is like asking me not to breathe, That is something else I intend to address in the New Year.

I still find it uncomfortable to write things like this on my blog, and despite how many times I tell myself I can write what I want, it’s a hurdle I stumble, not leap over. Couple that with yesterday having a crisis of confidence (yes again) and bemoaning the fact that I don’t feel like I write like an adult I was ready to throw in the towel and admit defeat. Unfortunately, for you that is, it only lasted a short period of time, so I’m not going anywhere any time soon, sorry to disappoint!

In the mean time I am going to do the housework and give myself a serious talking to. I would do it in a dark room but the daytime scuppered that idea.

Merry Meh-ness people, tomorrow (or even later on) is another day!

It’s 363 Days till Christmas!

Santa Sprouts
Santa Sprouts!

It’s kind of hard to believe that it’s all over for another year. The build up seems to take forever. We begin planning from the start of December, or for some even before and then it arrives and if you blink you miss it.

My Sister and I managed just fine with the cooking, well no one died, so thats got to be a result right? I had my brussel sprouts (thank you for asking Audrey Dawn lol) The effects were not too catastrophic, well until later in the evening that is, when I donned the penguin onesie given to me by Udders. After a brief spell of high winds I pretty much looked like this:

Fart in a Wetsuit
Never fart in a Onsie!

I did get lots of  lovely goodies though, including some other penguin things. I was delighted with everything. Hey as long as there are sweets and stationary I am a happy camper. Add in a Geek fleece blanket and some new sketch pads and it’s a match made in heaven!

I’m not however loving the weather we are having just now. Tonight has been high winds and heavy rain. I keep thinking at any moment the roof is going to blow off leaving me seeing stars, quite literally! I suppose it’s to be expected. Think about the sheer volume of sprouts consumed over the festive period, all that extra gas has to go somewhere. Thing is though, we’ve had these high winds for a while now, so could you all try and point your arses in a different direction to see if it makes any difference.

Oooo that reminds me, there was more good news as well…..wait for it…..I reached 200 followers!! I would show you the little badge only WordPress hasn’t given me one yet, perhaps I have to get 201 for that to happen. I know it’s a little confusing because my side bar says 280, but that’s the figure including Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you to those who pushed me into the path of their followers (yeah that means you Strawberry Quick Sand), reblogged me, bigged me up, and in a nut shell got me the additional followers I needed to reach my goal! It’s possibly the first time I have ever reached a personal target in my life, well apart from trying to make myself float in a penguin onesie that is.

I hope you all had an enjoyable and Happy Christmas. There are only a few days left until the start of 2014, and I very much look forward to seeing you all on the other side!

It’s getting close…

Happy Christmas

The turkey has been picked up and is chilling in it’s little plastic onsie in the fridge! The vegetables arrive tomorrow for the short stay at our house before they disappear into my tummy. Only one more day at work and then there is not having to worry about it for another five days. Anyone would think it was Christmas. Oh wait it is……

I have to be honest and say I am not a big Christmas lover, I think I may have mentioned that before. Occasionally though I do get overcome with the spirit of it all, and burst into random renditions of Christmas carols. I also have a fondness for festive TV, and may in fact watch the Wizard of Oz for the 100th time. I’ll counter and possibly win discussions by starting off with ‘But it’s Christmas…’ and there is no doubt that I will eat way to much and promise that I will never do so again.

I’m really looking forward to a few days off, a chance to relax and unwind, catch up on some blog reading and perhaps, if you are really unlucky, I might even write a few posts of my own. I’ve missed so many great posts lately, but life has been a little more hectic than usual.

We have weather warnings in place for high winds over the next couple of days so I hope the electricity stays on. I would hate to spend  my 5 days off suffering from Brussel Sprout withdrawal symptoms.

Chances are I will be back before the big day, but should I not be, I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. I am so grateful for the support I have received from you all, right down to each and every like and comment! It’s been humbling and overwhelming.

Who would have thought at the start of 2013 that I would meet a bunch of wonderful eejits like you!

Merry Christmas, I hope it’s a good one!

Jiggling Jingle Bells!

Writing challenge. What if you could rewrite your favourite Christmas song?

So Jed from over at Okay, What if? has set us the above challenge. Right from the outset I liked the idea, however I have to be honest and say it was a little harder than I initially thought!

Anyway for your entertainment, here is my remake of that old classic ‘Jingle Bells’. Remember you can’t just read it, you have to sing along, to the tune of , yep you guessed it, well, Jingle Bells of course!

Laughing in the snow,
They say more is on the way,
There are presents still to wrap,
and food to cook for the big day.

The sprouts they do their work,
They produce cool musical toots,
Lets hope we cook the turkey right,
So we don’t give ourselves the scoots!

Jingle Bells, Santa Smells,
He’s had too many greens,
He gets the presents muddled up,
and gives everyone a tin of beans.

Jingle Bells, now the whole town smells
There are lots of musical toots,
Santa lets a big one rip
and blows himself clean out of his boots!

A shindig or a Soirée?

An Office Full of Eejits

You may remember in my last post I had remarked about how quiet it had been in the office of late, due to interference from…well, work. Apart from the afternoon of the 2 hour quiz which was hijacked by the Googling ‘Charades’ bandit, we have been relatively well behaved. Until today that is!

Each year the office hold a little ‘Christmas Soirée’ for a select few. Being relatively new to the office, and having missed last years due to injury, this was to be my first as an official office add on. It was also to be the first year I would partake in the Secret Santa.

The Diamond Dancer did what she does best and organised an amazing spread of nibbles and drinks (soft of course). Aside from it being Christmas, it was also Pri-Lei’s birth anniversary, and her arrival was greeted by a resounding chorus of Happy Birthday. In hindsight we were foolish and should have instead performed a mash-up. “We Wish You A Merry Birthday” could have been the coveted Christmas Number 1!

I gave Pri-Lei the worlds smallest ‘Star Wars’ Journal. She said she liked it, although when she did her eye gave a funny twitch, which made me a little suspicious as to her integrity! I could tell you her age, but I do believe, in all honesty, that she would hunt me down and kill me! Happy Birthday Pri – Lei, work is so much funnier when you are around!

After the stampede for the buffet had calmed a little and teas and coffee’s had been made, the process of dolling out the Secret Santa presents began. The task of delivery fell to me, because I was a little excited by the whole affair (I don’t get out much). It has to be said that as far as our office goes, we were pretty shit at the whole secret bit. Through careful elimination and cock-ups we had all pretty much figured out our gift givers.

My gift giver was the Tinsel Twit, who made a guest appearance at the soirée despite still being unwell. How did I know it was her I hear you ask. Mainly because when all the presents had been given out she said oh I forgot to put mine over there, doh! Oh and the fact there was a huge packet of Swizzels Matlow Drumsticks hanging out of it too was another sure sign.

There was much laughter as one by one gifts were opened. I got lots of class Penguin things and also stationary, for which I have a bit of a fetish! As we went round in the circle there was also drink, DVD’s, shopping bags, Bonsai tree’s, socks, nipple vijazzles (don’t even ask) and frilly Merry Christmas knickers.

Last but not least came The Adorable Yeti, the only male in the office to partake of the Secret Santa. I thought I was excited but the bearded one took it to a whole other level. Each time he placed his hand into the gift bag and pulled out an item from inside he let out a big “Yeyyyyyyyy” which was then followed by lots of laughter from us. When he pulled out two tins of air freshener there was an even bigger roar of laughter. Last to come out of the bag though, was some fart putty, his Secret Santa knew him well, considering The Adorable Yeti is renowned for his amazing trouser trumps!

Fart Putty
The infamous ‘Fart Putty’

Needless to say  the rest of the afternoon in the office was a musical extravaganza, as each toot from the fart putty was followed by the bass of The Adorable Yeti’s laugh.

They might be eejits, but they are great craic!

It might be random but..

Ok so earlier I did a post and said I wanted five more follows so I could reach my dream of 200. I did get three more, thank you very much new followers, but more random than that, I got a new little notification of an award:

likeable-blog-1337-1x

It’s kind of a random number right? Although I am not complaining about the likes, thank you everyone! After Googling this little conundrum I was glad to note that others were as confused as I upon receiving this award.

Leet (or “1337“), also known as eleet or leetspeak, is an alternative alphabetfor the English languagethat is used primarily on the Internet. It uses various combinations of ASCIIcharacters to replace Latinateletters. For example, leet spellings of the word leet include 1337 andl33teleet may be spelled 31337 or 3l33t.

The term leet is derived from the word elite

So there you have it, in simple terms, WordPress have a damn fine sense of humour!

In Other News!

Hot off the press, the latest edition of the Okay, What If Challenge has been released and this week there is a definite Christmas feel.

Writing challenge. What if you could rewrite your favorite Christmas song?

I mean who hasn’t wanted to do that at some stage, in fact I am sure some of us already have while under the guise of the demon drink. If you would like to participate in the challenge, then click the link for more information.

Secondly, it’s Monday! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to anyone who had not realised. Monday’s suck, of that there is no doubt, but it’s not all doom and gloom because it’s also the day that Steve from Steve says issues the weeks Monday (funnily enough) Music Challenge. If you are not sure you’re on the right path, or which direction you should take, let the mystic music guide you, so far its been freakishly accurate, well for me anyways. For more information click here.

Last, but not least we have Rob, from Robs Surf Report, and his Haiku Challenge, which this month has the theme of Epic Fantasy. It certainly makes you think. I found my first foray challenging but entertaining. For more information, click here.

And on that note I shall leave you with a Christmas advertisement for the present I want from Kris Kringle, none other than Santa Claus himself, a Buffalo Tom Peabody Plunger, something no home should be without. Head here to order!

Till next time!

Here comes 2014!

When the mad rush of Christmas is all over and we lie around in our chairs unable to move due to the fact that we are stuffed to the gills with turkey and the brussel sprouts have not yet started to work their magic, thoughts will start to turn to the New Year and the hopes and dreams we wish for, neatly sold as resolutions.

When I kept diaries, every year I would faithfully write my wishes for the year ahead, everything I was going to do, achieve and how I was going to change and better myself. Unbeknownst to me, until I read them all back one after the other, was that they were all the same. Every year I was wishing and hoping for the same things and nothing was changing.

So this year, I’m not going to hope for anything or make any kind of wishes, I’m just going to go with the flow and see what happens. I’m not going to wish away my anxiety and worry, instead I am going to keep an eye on them and if things don’t improve I am going to seek outside assistance in the form of some kind of medication.

I’m going to lose weight, if for nothing else, but the sake of my knees. I’ve been back to work almost a year since my accident and whilst I am much improved I am also beginning to realise that I am never going to be the same, so any assistance I can give my ailing joints will I am sure, be appreciated.

My before the end of year goal is actually relatively simple, I want to reach 200 followers on this blog. Now I know you will look and say but you have over that now, and yes I do, however if you take Facebook and Twitter out of the equation I don’t. I’d like to earn my little 200 followers badge, I only need 5 more people and I’m happy.

I love blogging, I’ve met some amazing people, tried things I never thought I would, written things I still can’t believe I did, and I’ve even researched and written a Haiku, and lets not forget the fact that I am possibly in the running for a date with the witty Office Inbetweener (click here for your chance to win). It’s been an eventful year. Let’s hope it is the first of many, I certainly didn’t think I would last as long as I have.

So never mind following the yellow brick road this Christmas,  follow me!

Who did you say you were again?

So the other day, something very strange happened.

Still feeling a little glum after all the trauma of the card writing and the last minute frantic gift buying I decided I needed a time out and a little peace and quiet, so I headed into a well known coffee franchise and rewarded myself with a hefty serving of cappuccino. It seemed I had underestimated the peace and quiet aspect though, as a great number of other Christmas Shoppers had also elected to rest their weary legs. As luck would have it I found a small table tucked away in the corner, and there I sat mindlessly stirring my coffee while contemplating life in general.

“Mind if I sit here?”

Snapping out of my daydream I looked up to see a gentleman of around 60 years of age smiling down at me.

“No, sit away, let me just move my stuff. Nice beard and tache by the way, is that left over from Movember?”

He laughed, a nice tinkling kind of laugh. “No, that’s pretty much there all year round.”

“It’s cool, it’s so white, it’s almost like snow!”

Again he laughed. “Indeed. So what’s with the long face?”

This time I laughed, “You do realise that’s what the bar man said to the crocodile when it asked for a pint.”

“Ah, the old ones are the best. Seriously, why so glum?”

I shrugged my shoulders, “Meh. Just not loving the Christmas vibe at the minute.”

“Any particular reason why?”

“None specifically, just lots of different little random ones, money, time, stress…go me, bah bloody humbug!”

He appeared thoughtful for a minute, “Hmm, are you not excited to see what Santa has brought you for Christmas?”

It was at this point that the mouthful of coffee I happened to be savouring left me and met in tiny droplets all over the gentleman’s face. “I’m sorry, that was unintentional, but I mean come on, Santa, what age do you think I am?”

“I think you are never to old to believe in Santa Claus, he, after all, believes in you.”

“Does he indeed. Well that’s good to know.”

“I note the sarcasm young lady, but he never gave up on you the year you hunted the house high and low looking for your Christmas presents. Come Christmas morning you still got the cabbage patch doll you asked for.”

“Yeah, that is true….wait a minute..how did you……”

“And he never forgot you the year you tried so hard to find out what your presents were, that your parents told you if you didn’t stop harping on they were going to sell you at the market.”

I laughed, “Yeah there is that too….hang on here…..”

“And he didn’t forget you the year you thought he had delivered your presents to your Sister. The look on your face when she pulled the football gloves you had asked for out of her stocking, oh how I….ahem, I mean oh how Santa must have laughed.”

“Wait just a minute, you said I…….”

“Anyway I must go, it’s been lovely to chat.”

“Wait I didn’t catch your name?”

“Well it’s Kris my dear, Kris Kringle and it’s been lovely to meet you.”

“It’s been nice to meet you too Mr Kringle,” and with that he was gone.

Funny thing is, the name is really familiar but I can’t think where I know it from, I’m sure it will come to me. It’s weird, but the Christmas cappuccino must have been just what I needed, because ever since that day I have been really looking forward to Christmas!

Written for the Okay, what if? Challenge, “What if you could have a conversation with Santa.”

Thank feck it’s Friday!

So my apologies for being AWOL most of this week, it’s been very up and down to say the least.

Work was hectic, a real blast, and by blast I mean that for most of the week I thought my head was going to explode. For two days straight I looked at nothing but Excel spreadsheets, to the point that when I walked anywhere I saw grid lines in my field of vision. Thank goodness for Princess Leia (named so because of her love for all things Star Wars), who shall from now on be known as Pri-Lei, she ferried me home every night in her spaceship and prepared me for the following day with her many words of wisdom and healthy doses of laughter.

Home was fraught too, I had already been dreading the Christmas Cards, but after writing just one and the trouble it caused, the fear scale has rocketed clean off the chart, which appeared on the gridlines in my field of vision from the accursed Excel. There were other problems too, but for the sake of both your sanity and mine, I will refrain from sharing.

I’m so behind on my blog reading, liking and commenting, apologies one and all. Time has not been something I have had a lot of spare this week and I am worried that this will be the way it is right up until Christmas. I miss my blogging though so will try to make more of an effort.

Now though is the time for sleep, because I am completely done in!

Night night all :) x

Feet Up!

I do love a Monday off, that one extra day tagged onto the weekend.

For once I’m doing nothing of any importance. I’m going to spend the day cleaning up the clutter than seems to gather round me during the week, well after I finish this post and watch ‘The Hotel Inspector’ that is. I like her particular brand of ballsy! Couple that with the fact I’ve put my back out and you’ll forgive me a little R ‘n’ R!

Last night Udders and I had the pleasure of attending ‘Le Maison De La Monkey’ for a slap up Sunday dinner! All I can say is ‘Wow’ and when are we going back! That was a meal and a half. I had to stop myself from licking the plate. The highlight of the whole night however, had to be the sight of Udders, Monkey and Rugette with their arses in the air. Yep, someone broke out the Twister Mat. There is photographic evidence, but I thought I would spare you from that!

Christmas is coming, and it’s coming far to fast for my liking. There are only a few weeks left and there is so so much to do. The task I dread the most is the writing of all my Mother’s cards, same as she is no longer able to herself. My own friends tend to fall by the wayside a little, because after writing so many I just can’t face any more. Last year the task was made easier because I was at home anyway nursing Alien Leg, but this year I am going to have to  fit it in between being back at work full time, cooking and cleaning. Doesn’t leave much time left over! I figure if I guzzle down the rescue remedy we’ll be fine. Fingers crossed!

I have to be honest and say I am not a big Christmas fan. I do love all the lights and the decorated trees, but for many it’s a huge money sucker. I pity parents who feel they have to follow trends when buying presents for their children. Consoles and technology may look like nothing left under a tree, but they cost an absolute fortune and there is no doubt that peer pressure plays a part. I sure wouldn’t want to be paying Santa’s credit card bill!

Still though, as the time gets closer, it’s almost impossible to not get caught up in the festive season. One sniff of cinnamon up the nostrils, the gentle tinkle of a sleigh bell and the twinkle of fairy lights is enough to soften the heart of this Grinch!

I’m cutting down with regards to the presents though, it’s meant to be the time of Peace and Goodwill, not crying in the corner because you can’t make ends meet! Thankfully there are very few of my friends I buy for, we’ll all content with nice cards, anyone want to write mine? *smiles sweetly*
