Thank you for the award but………

……..there’s always a but isn’t there.

I’ve been asked a lot this week why I do not accept awards, I have also this week, been the recipient of a couple from fellow bloggers, so what better time to address the situation.

Break Out

I was incarcerated once, there I said it. Phew, I’m glad that’s off my chest. Now before you panic, not in a real prison, but I was put in a detention centre by Akismet – The Spam Killers, it was a cold, dark and lonely place called ‘The Spam Folder’.

Back in the day before any of you knew me, in fact before anyone really knew me I used to get awards and would dutifully do all that was asked of me before passing them on, usually via a link on my intended recipients blog. Before long I started to run out of answers for the questions that were posed, and I also noticed that my comments were no longer showing on other peoples blogs when I stopped by. I figured at first that like me,  people had comment moderation turned on, but time passed and the comment was still no where to be seen. After a lot of head scratching I wondered if I had perhaps annoyed the entire blogging community and was being collectively shunned for my crime, hard for you to imagine I know, but yes I CAN be that irritating. I headed to the blogs of my two best friends knowing they would never desert me, ok hoping they never would, but even they had too. D I S A S T E R!

Eventually, with the help of Mr Google I was able to figure out that I had fallen foul of the filters on Akismet and due to the link posting for the awards, I had been banned for my crimes and branded as Spam. After about a month of pleading and begging people to release me I was finally freed and able to feel the sun on my face, or on my pages…..ahh whatever….I was free, and there I wish to remain.

I have not done awards since, I cherish being able to leave comments and interact with everyone. That however does not mean I am ungrateful, far from it, there is nothing better than knowing that someone liked you enough to put you on their list, it is praise indeed. In the act of doing so, they then introduce you to some of their friends and your little community grows, as far as networking goes, it is a useful tool, just be careful with the links.

Another thing about awards is the fact that you usually have to nominate a certain amount of people to pass the torch too. This used to cause me terrible problems, I hated leaving anyone out as each person who follows and interacts here is unique with different endearing qualities. When you love everyone equally it’s hard to make choices.

I know I’m not here as often as I would like, I’m trying to make changes to rectify this, but hang around, read the comments and interact, not just with me but with everyone who comments here, that’s what this blog is all about, community and hopefully it’s funny too. I have the best bunch of people that can be found on WordPress and there is always room for more, make yourself at home.

To the people who nominated me this week, thank you very much, please know that it is appreciated. Janey from Cupid or Cats is pretty famous in blogging circles so I am humbled indeed and the lovely Ritu from But I Smile Anyway labelled my blog as funny, you have no idea how ridiculously pleased that made me, because after all, that’s the name of the game.

All in all a good end to a pretty up and down week. Whilst looking particularly stressed after a meeting this week, my very nice boss asked if he could make me a cup of tea to which I replied, “I’m away for a smoke, I need nicotine, we’re well past the tea stage!

And on that happy note, till next time eejits!

I am Two!

I am Two

It’s been a busy week meaning I’ve not had much of a chance to check up on my blog, I was too busy hiding under my desk in work having a mini meltdown.

Today however I decided to take a quick peek when I got home, and lo and behold WordPress informed me that I am two, well to be more exact, that my blog is, or was registered two years ago today. Where on earth did the time go?

The Anniversary Times Two Trophy!
The Anniversary Times Two Trophy!

I’m pretty sure at my one year anniversary I wrote a piece about how I was amazed I had made it to a year and what do you know, another one has gone past and I am still here! To the person who put superglue on the seat, I salute you.

Lately there has been a lot of posts in relation to the larger blogs, in particular the number of followers they have and how they obtain them. It’s easy to look up to the stars, but you need to remember that you are still standing on the ground.

I used to be like that, dream that one day I would have thousands of followers and be as cool as those I aspired to be. I realised rather quickly that was not going to happen, my writing was never going to win me awards and my wit alone was not enough to see me through and I was just fine with that, the world still turned.

I’m happy right where I am thank you very much. Yes it may have taken me two years to amass over 800 followers when some people can do that in mere months. Good on ya I say, I’m going for quality and not quantity. In my world 800 is fecking hugeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Every follower is a bonus, and I have found over the last two years that the majority of mine are real treasures and my life is better because they all dandered into it.

So happy I am two day, the fact that I am still here is nothing to do with me, but everything to do with you, my lovely eejits, I would be lost without you all!

Conversations on Trains

Train

I think I have one of these faces. I like to smile, in fact I will smile at anyone whether they are receptive to it or not. It would appear that the act of smiling very often leads into the art of the awkward return smile and sometimes rebound conversation.

On an unmanned TRAIN platform in the middle of the universe:

Me: Smiles.

Stranger: Lovely morning isn’t it.

Me: It sure is, but it’s very warm.

Stranger: You waiting for something?

Me: Yes, the train.

Stranger: It’s very warm isn’t it.

Me: Aye.

Train pulls into the station.

Stranger: Is that the train then.

Me: Yes, you getting on?

Stranger: No I think I’ll wait for the train.

Me: Ummm ok then, have a nice day!

Forgive me for being a little confused by this. There is only one line, with all trains going to the same place. I can only imagine he was waiting for a special train. I might check it out on Monday, it could lead me on a very exciting adventure.

At a table, on a moving train in the middle of the same universe.

Me: Smiles

Stranger: That’s one hell of a phone you have there girl.

Me: Smiling and laughing. That’s not a phone, it’s a tablet.

Stranger: Ach no, I wouldn’t want to be swallowing that thing.

We  both laugh at his amazing quip.

Stranger: So what are you doing?

Me: I’m writing.

Stranger: Writing what?

Me: A blog.

Stranger: A wha?

Me: A blog.

Stranger: What’s a blog then?

Me: Hmmm it’s kinda like an online diary.

Stranger: Oh. There must be some good stuff in there then.(In a nudge nudge, wink wink way)

Me: Not really, it’s pretty boring actually.

Stranger: Well it looks exciting. I might have to get me a big old phone like that and one of those there blog things.

Me: What would you call it?

Stranger: You said it was a tablet.

Me: No I meant your blog.

Stranger: It needs a name?

Me: Yes it has to have a title.

Stranger: (Thinks for a minute rapping fingers on the table) Sure I’ll name it Fido after me dog.

Me: (Laughing) Aye that’s dead on. I’ll keep an eye out for it, see ye later.

I think I  might stop smiling.

(I actually posted this before, way back in 2013, but it was kind of right for the Okay, What If? Challenge so I’ve redone it. I think there will most likely be another one too though.)

Okay, What If? Challenge

Get writing eejits, time to give the old noggin a nudge! :)

The Indecisive Eejit's avatarOkay, What if ?

Okay, what if I told you it had been too long since there was a writing challenge, and that after polling the people in the know, erm, that’s you guys, I’ve realised that  inspiration is a little thin on the ground. So here’s the thing, we need something to get our top boxes ticking, and after consultation with the main man Jed, he has given his permission for me to issue forth a challenge.

Now I know you’re all busy, heck I am too, but no one is asking you to sit down and write war and piece, how about if I give you a topic and you just sit down and blog about the first thing that comes to mind for 5 or 10 minutes. Free thought after all is when we are at our most random.

This challenge will run until I remember have time to put the next one…

Idea’s and Public Transport Challenges

One thing that became apparent from all the comments on my post last night, was the fact that I am not alone in relation to the dark cloud that appears to be blocking inspiration waves. It’s reach is further than I thought. What is this strange affliction that has me lost for words, when normally I am looking for a cure for verbal diarrhea.

A couple of weeks ago I reposted some of the fictional stories I had written as a result of Jed’s challenges on Okay, What If? when they were still going. I realised I missed writing skits and the weaving of words required to craft a suitable twist in an ending. While I think my mind no longer has the capabilities of a crafty ending, I do miss the prompts.

I spoke to Jed today and asked him if he had any objections to me perhaps posting a challenge or two on his site and he’s kindly given the go ahead. So this is where you lot come in, do you have any ideas for prompts that would start with Okay, What If? and what would get you interested in participating? I understand that everyone has time constraints, even I would not be able to do every challenge, but there are no hard and fast rules, it’s about having fun and giving the old grey matter a kick in the goolies. Any input would be appreciated.

Speaking of challenges, in comment conversation with Wee Blue Birdie today I somehow got roped into a mini one in relation to public transport as both she and I use this particular method of travel. Challenge accepted, however it may be tomorrow evening before I get to work on the post, so no chirping in my ear Birdie you hear!!

Lastly I must give a shout out and a thank you to Caitlin over at The Teen Daydreamer for kindly putting me forward for her award. As anyone who has been here a while knows, I no longer do awards, I am however still grateful to be considered. Thank you little Miss Daydreamer, much appreciated.

Okay, what if you were to hit me with your ideas? Preferably not when they are tied to a brick :)

Lacking Inspiration

Blog Tidy

I’m having one of those days. I have so much to do, but I have no idea where to start. Thankfully the Ships (for newbies I mean my parents, the Mothership and the Fathership) have been fed and the chores are all done, everything that’s fuzzy is blog related.

I need to clean up, tidy up, read and write, but I find myself sitting here looking at a blank screen. My current favourite song of choice Hunger of the Pine plays in the background and my mind is drifting to other places. Anywhere other than where I actually need it to be, which is in the here and now.

This last few days May Dupp has also been rapping at the front of my brain reminding me she is still here and needs to be attended to as well. Sometimes I wish she was more like a ventriloquists dummy so I could just put her in a suitcase and wheel her out when needed. Unfortunately as she is free to wander the vast blank spaces between my ears, she can make her presence felt whenever she so chooses. Damn me and my imaginary characters.

I still can’t find a theme, there are bits and pieces I like about a lot of them, but very few where I like everything. My attempts for a banner have also stalled, I have decided I am no graphic designer. I still like what I have though so I’ll stick with it for a while longer.

I’ve not been writing much, what do you mean you didn’t notice *cue shocked face*. I don’t want this space to become somewhere I just moan about the rigors of caring for someone with dementia so on weeks like last week when it was prevalent, I decided to say very little. I try as much as possible to keep this a fun place,  of course I will have the occasional rant, who doesn’t, but I don’t want to drag myself, you and the kitchen sink into the mire. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try you just can’t summon the funny. Thank goodness the rest of you can and there is always something to read.

At this point Itunes randomly throws up and starts to play Paul Simon ‘I know what I know’, it’s fast becoming my man the feck up song and it works.

I’m still loving Twitter and have been playing the Hash Tag games, I personally thought my entry of ‘The Peelers’ was outstanding for the tag #IrishA Band, but what do I know. If you want to follow along and join in the link is over there somewhere ———–>

How’s your Sunday going?

Sunday Round Up!

IE News Banner

You know, as far as Sundays go, this one did not totally suck. Between Austin over at The Return of the Modern Philosopher’s Blog Pitch Party and Suzie’s #SundayBlogShare on Twitter I have been thoroughly amused and entertained and met some new bloggers in the process. Both are still ongoing, so it’s not to late to drop in and check them out.

The past week was marginally better than the last, I didn’t randomly burst into tears at any point, although I was still plagued with confidence issues. I really do need to give myself a good talking too, I am without a shadow of a doubt my own worst enemy. When faced with obstacles, both at home and work I need to remember to remain calm instead of running round like a headless chicken screaming ‘Oh feck’ over and over again. Three years ago I would have loved this job and quite possibly done it well, but now I just feel that with all the additional stress with the Mothership and Alien Leg,  that everything is sitting heavy on my shoulders. Perhaps the arrival of Spring will put an extra bounce in my step!

I finally decided to embrace Twitter this week, and not in the usual death like I am going to throw this phone against the wall grip I have previously favoured, this was a more quizzical gentle hand holding effort as I dipped the tip of my finger into the tepid waters. I think I like it, I don’t fecking understand it half time, but I like it none the less. It was all tweeting birds, gold stars and gentle pings, that’s good right?

Also of late, Ndorfman (who is worthy of a follow) and I have been sharing our love of music via my Music Bubble page. I am loving his suggestions, it’s nice to be introduced to tunes which without intervention I might never have found. Check out some of the songs and if you have any to add, please feel free to do so. Eventually I will start stripping away the video’s and will just  leave a list of the songs, the page is already getting noticeably slower.

Last but by no means least we have the lovely Steve’s foray into the world of Vlogging, he’s a lot less fidgety that he was in his very first one, but as I was telling him today he needs to curl the corners of that tache! Also, he has also promised that if I send him a hat he will wear it. I can’t wait to go to the big smoke to see if I can find a leprechaun one. Here is the main man in action:

Till next time original eejits and a very warm welcome to the new ones, make yourselves at home!
