Steve’s Music Mix – Communication

Join Steve doing the funky chicken!

So I know this makes two similar posts in quick succession, but for once I am trying to be a little ahead of myself by doing something on time.

Again, here is a refresher of the rules for Steve’s Musix Mix for this week!

The Blurb

Each week Steve will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

This weeks questions:

1. Are you a good listener? – The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver by Elbow – This song contains the lyric’s ‘Send up a prayer in my name. Just the same. They say I’m on top of my game’ So I guess that means I must be a good listener right?! I suppose the best people to ask would have to be my friends.
2. Are you a good public speaker – Metropolis by Owl City – Hmmm I would have no desire to publicly speak in front of a whole Metropolis. I actually did public speaking when I was younger for the school Young Farmers Club. We won a Northern Ireland Championship so we must have been the best of a bad bunch. It funny how when you are younger you are less self conscious. I would hate the thought of having to stand up in front of a crowd now.

3. Are you a good writer? – Inside by The Guillemots – That’s pretty accurate. Inside I want to be a really good writer as it’s something I have found I really enjoy. The reality though as far as I am concerned does not match up. I have issues with grammar and spelling, but I am hoping practice will push me towards perfection and if I am entertaining people along the way then I am happy!

If you would like to try this quiz for yourself, then click on the picture at the top to be taken to Steve’s page. He’d love you to tag along and have a go.

So to the questions for this week:

1. In an ideal world…?  – Blood, Sweat and Tears – Paloma Faith – Hmmm that wouldn’t really be my idea of an ideal world to be honest. I was kinda hoping to ditch those. Ooo unless of course I own my own company and I’m putting in Blood, Sweat and Tears to make it work…I could handle that!

2. In a cruel world…? – (Can’t get my) Head around you – The Offspring – I can imagine living in a cruel world where I can’t get my head around anyone at all. Sometimes it’s hard enough trying to figure out what’s going on in my own without having to analyze others.

3.  In another world…? – Carry On – Fun – Pretty true really isn’t it. It kinda doesn’t matter where we are or what we do, when hardships come we just have to Carry On.

This weeks questions:

1. How do you feel right now? I feel better by Gotye – That’s actually a good song for me, the blues of post Christmas seem to have lifted a litte bit, so he’s right, I do feel better. It a nice wee feel good song too, so if you need cheered up check it out, sing along and dance like there is no tomorrow!

2. You will only make one New Years Resolution and it is…?Teardrop – Newton Faulkner cover – This is one of my favourite songs of all time. The original by Massive attached is the best version, but Newton here does a sterling job with his cover. Hopefully this means I am going to shed a few less Teardrops in 2014 :)

3. What do you think of this Steve’s Monday Music Mix? She’s a Rebel by Greenday – Oh I’m a rebel all right because I never do the challenge on the day I am supposed to, but as the man (some random man that is), better late than never, and Steve hasn’t shouted at me yet :)

There will be a new one up tomorrow so please feel free to join in!

Steve’s Monday Music Quiz – Week 9

SteveDJ

Here we go with Week 9 of Steve’s Monday (that I can never seem to do on the day I am supposed to) Music Quiz!

Here’s a refresher of the rules:

Each week Steve will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

Title your post “Steve’s Monday Music Mix – Week…” and link back to that week’s page.

And now to the questions:

1. Are you a good cleaner? – Waiting from the Film Soundtrack of Shopping – That’s kinda right, I do all the housework on a Saturday and in the morning I am usually hanging around waiting till the Mother Ship goes shopping so I can get peace to do it.

2. Do you hold grudges? – Madame Trudeaux – KT Tunstall – Well that’s a real head scratcher because for once I have no answer. That said the last verse from the song contains the lyrics “You’re a cold bird Madame Trudeaux”, so perhaps it’s her holds the grudges and not me!

3. A rock is thrown through your window with a note on it. It says… – Who needs information – Radio Kaos – Roger Waters – There has to be an easier way of obtaining information, than hefting a rock throw my window. May I suggest you try an Encyclopedia of some description, and have a healthy does of feck away off while you’re at it.

~

If you would like to try this challenge for yourself, then why are you still reading this. You should be clicking the picture at the top of the page to be magically transported to all the rules and regulations!

Till next week…….

Steve’s Monday (that I’m doing on a Sunday) Mix – Week 7

SteveDJ
Music Stevie Styleee!

I know I’m late, but at least I’m not so late that the next weeks has been published and as someone obviously extremely smart and talented once said, ‘It’s better late than never!’

Ok, lets have a little refresher of the rules:

Each week Steve will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

Title your post “Steve’s Monday Music Mix – Week…” and link back to that week’s page.

Now for this weeks questions:

Is the grass greener on the other side?Walkie Talkie – Lady in the Water Soundtrack – If I’m on the other side of a 10ft wall then me thinks a walkie talkie is going to come in rather handy. If I’m on the other side after I have shuffled off this mortal coil, I’m going to wait till it’s pitch black, shout boo and scare the shit clean out of you all!

What will your famous last words be?Intro – Gorillaz – That would be just my luck, uttering my last words at the introduction to my fame.

What is your theme song? – Pax Deorum – Enya – Had to Google this, so according to Wikipedia Pax Deorum means ‘Peace of the Gods’, go figure I thought there was only one and to be fair he has helped give me peace on several occasions.

If you would like to play, then click on Steve’s picture above, but wait until tomorrow, because there will be a new one!

Steves Monday Music Mix – Week 6!

SteveDJ
Steve gets his funk on!

This week I thought I’d be a good girl (boo, hiss) and name the challenge what I’m suppsed to!

Wow! Week 6 already, how the time flies. The great Steve changed his pic, so of course I had to steal it, that’s him up above strutting his funky stuff. Click on the picture to be taken direct to the page for this weeks challenge!

So as always, lets start with the rules:

Each week Steve will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

Post your response in the comment section of that week’s page.

Now for this weeks questions:

What is your first thought on waking up? – You can read all about it – Emeli Sande – You know that’s pretty accurate, if I’ve written the night before, one of the first things I do is check to see if I have any e-mails, which hopefully means someone somewhere liked it. Secondly, if I don’t have to get out of bed just yet, I go straight to my reader and try and catch up on what the rest of you have been up to!

All your life you have wanted to tell someone what? – Lonely Road to Absolution – Billy Talent – Erm, if it’s all about the forgiveness, then yep I need to seek some of that, hey don’t judge, I never said I was always a good girl ;)

When you are angry, what do you scream? – All in my head – Kosheen – Yeah, I pretty much do keep it all in my head, sometimes though there is a little to much going on and that causes brain leakage, when that happens I usually shout feck rather loudly :)

Not that anyone every would (ahem NBI) remember that the ping back is to Steve’s page and not mine!

I’m beginning to think he is a bit of a music prophet as all the answers seem to kinda fit, in a weird way. Here are mine for this week:

What do you think about most often – Breaking the Law – Emile Sande – Ooo I’m a secret wannabe law breaker – Am I feck, I’m too much of a chicken! lol

What is your biggest secret – When I was in your heart – David Gray – Hmm pretty accurate, my longest relationship was my biggest secret.

What is your theme song – People should smile more – Newton Faulkner – Agreed!

Music for the Mehness!

Daily Prompt: Mix Tape Masterpiece

You make a new friend. Make them a mix tape (or playlist, for the younger folks) that tells them who you are through song

One of my friends once told me that I have the weirdest taste in music ever, another described it as music to slit your wrists to….I guess that puts me squarely into the melancholy category. It is what it is and I likes what I like, I make no apologies for it. I love dance and pop as much as the next person, but my heart lies in the realm of songs that can make me cry. I’ve been listening to some of these anyways as I have been drowning in mehness this week. so figured I might as well share them.

Picture the scene, a one hour train journey after a long day at work, there are four more days till the weekend, it’s dark outside and the rain streaks down the windows, now if that doesn’t want to make you gurn your lamps out then my top ten melancholy melodies will:

Any Other Name – Thomas Newman

I think I originally heard this on a chill out CD, but I thought it was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I had ever heard. It never fails to make me cry if I am glum!

The Eels – It’s a Motherf*cker

This song contains bad language so if you are going to be offended don’t even watch. It’s a great song though if you are missing someone and you need to let them know.

Annie Lennox – Into the West

I know this is really morose, but I want this song played at my funeral when that time comes. If you listen to the lyrics you will understand why.

Alex Cornish – Brothers In Arms

I love the Dire Straits version as well, but this one just struck a chord with me and became my favourite.

Massive Attack – Teardrop

This song has always been a constant for me. It’s never not been an any kind of audio player I own.

Elbow – Lippy Kids

I have my sister to thank for introducing me to Elbow. I had never heard much of their stuff before until one night she played the album ‘Build a rocket boys’ and I heard this song. From that moment on I was in love.

Fyfe Dangerfield – She’s always a woman

I loved the band the ‘Guillemots’ whose lead singer is Fyfe Dangerfield, but when I heard him sing this, I loved it so much more than the Billy Joel version.

Damien Rice – 9 Crimes

That’s the first time I have seen this video and it’s err different, but I still love the song!

Lana Del Ray – Video Games

Not sure what it is about this song, but it just gets to me.

Passenger – The One You Love

I just love this guys voice and his album ‘Flight of the Crow’ is well worth a listen!

So there you have it, the 10 tracks from my forthcoming compilation album ‘Music for the Mehness’.

What if I were a mad scientist!

Music BubbleIn response to the ‘Okay, What If?’ Challenge.

What if you were a mad scientist? Do you want to create a monster like Frankenstein? Would you be bent on destroying the world or taking it over?

What if indeed, the possibilities would be endless.

I am assuming here that ‘mad’ means that, as we say here in Norn Iron, the lift does not go to the top floor, as opposed to ‘mad’ where I constantly break test tubes and hurl my bunsen burner because it did not toast my bread evenly!

As a mad scientist, my invention would be totally random, I’ve mentioned it in blogs before, and even have a page named after it! I, would invent the Music Bubble!

I am appreciative of the fact that there are MP3 players and Ipods, which in effect allow you to create your own little music bubble, but how many times have you been plonked next to someone who’s music does not stay within the confines of the headphones, but instead knocks at your head like an irritating woodpecker! I know I have, and I am so conscious of indeed being that person that I listen to my music at a much lower level than I would actually like!

The Music Bubble would be revolutionary and contain a new system called  “Doesntmatterhowlouditisnofeckersgonnahearit” [patent pending]. It would hold all the music you ever bought, due to it’s ability to link to the cloud system, an idea which someone stole from me in it’s infancy!

The bubble also cleverly doubles as a force field. How many times have you been listening to your music, lost in the atmosphere it creates, when someone or something walks into you, I mean really ffs, did that lamp post not look where it was going! Well no more, the bubble will knock obstacles back into next week, allowing you to enjoy and appreciate your tunes in peace!

I know personally, there have been times when I have been standing at a particular place, or caught up in a moment, where I would love to hear music. Watching a sunset, watching the rain fall, watching someone go arse over tit, everything has a tune. The music bubble has the instant ability to assess your thoughts and emotions and select the appropriate tune from your vast library, often times before you even think of it yourself.

The name for this marvelous invention – well, i’m torn, it’s either going to be “Look at yer woman in thon big bubble thing” or “The Soundtrack to your Life”.

Would you buy one?

Super Soundtracks!

I love music.

I love it for the way it makes me feel and how it can change my mood.

One of my bosses says that my music  makes him want to  go and find razor blades to slash his wrists. I can see where he is coming from, I do have a preference for all things melancholy.

Despite this though I have a very varied collection of all kinds of everything and I am always open to new ideas. My In My Music Bubble page gives a fair indication of the current play list.

I tend to chop and change though, I’ll play something for weeks or even months on end and then forget all about it. I make myself weird little play lists like, Chilled, Sad, Dance and Cleaning to name but a few. Each contains just the right amount of songs with a suitable beat for the task in hand.

One thing I keep coming back to though is soundtracks. I LOVE them and rarely tire of them. It’s something about the mix of the music and how it can transport you, different styles and beats blending seamlessly into one. I’ve happened across soundtracks to films I have never even seen, meaning I have to rely on my imagination to supply the visuals. So here, in no particular order 5 of my favourite movie soundtracks:

Red Planet.jpg

Red Planet

This was a bizarre little find. We used to have this music store that every so often would put on a sale where you could buy 4 CD’s for £10. I used to buy them and then sell them on Ebay. More often than not I made no profit. I decided to have a listen to this one before I sold it, fell in love and needless to say it’s been on my shelf ever since. I think I did see the movie, but it obviously was not that memorable.

Best Track: Canto XXX – Emma Shapplin

Shopping.jpg

Shopping

Shopping in this film is in the form of Ram Raiding. I saw this movie one Saturday night at a friend’s house. We’d all been like, you want us to watch a film about Shopping, wtf! It was nothing like we imagined. I loved both the film and the soundtrack.

Best Tracks: Water Pistol Man – The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Why don’t you take me – One Dove and Heaven or Hell – Salt ‘n’ Peppa

Sucker Punch.jpg

Sucker Punch

With regards to the film, I liked it, but I didn’t love it. The soundtrack however was different. Old songs got a new funky twist making them just that little bit more sinister than before.

Best Tracks: Sweet Dreams  – Emily Browning, White Rabbit – Emiliana Torrini and Tomorrow Never Knows – Alison Mosshart.

Gladiator.jpg

Gladiator

Not to be confused with the original soundtrack, this is actually entitled More Music  from the Motion Picture and it’s much better than its predecessor.

I didn’t watch Gladiator until a couple of years after it had been released because I thought it wouldn’t be my type of thing. It completely blew me away and I was annoyed I had waited so long.

Best Track – Now We Are Free – Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard

Avatar.jpg

Avatar

I love this soundtrack. I also loved the film. There are parts that are truly uplifting, but also parts that can make you sad when you remember which part of the film they came from.

Best Tracks: Climbing Up Iknimaya  and Jake’s First Flight– James Horner

This is only a few of the many soundtracks I like. If you have any suggestions for ones I should listen to I’d love you to leave me a comment. I like being introduced to new music!
