No Moaning Monday

image

Who’d have thought that in the middle of October I would be sitting at a train station bathed in sunlight. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fecking freezing, but then again I am sitting in the shade.

It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching Winter, but it seems that the old saying is true, time does indeed fly. In just a couple of weeks the clocks will change and we will be rewarded with an extra hour in bed.

I don’t miss the long nights of summer, but neither am I looking forward to the cold frosty nights of Winter, perhaps I am only content for two weeks out of every year. Two weeks is better than none.

I’m trying to be better, better at finding positives in every day. Like the smell of fresh cut grass, possibly the last until spring, the formations of birds who fly high heading for warmer destinations and the setting sun which paints the sky red, an alleged Shepherds delight.

Life has moved very fast of late, there has been much to do, it leaves little time for the activities I enjoy, so I make the most of these small moments and acknowledge them with a smile.

I consider that not a bad result for a Monday :)

Movies on a Monday!

I got the loveliest message this morning, that’s always a good way to start the day right?! Am I going to tell you what it said, no I’m not cos it’s private you nosey feckers, but suffice as to say it made me smile!

My sincere apologies to those of you who fought the good fight for the penguins, I am sorry, but as much as I loved the little blue articles they had to go, they made my page look too busy, and me dizzy in the process. That said, I kinda miss them, the plain blue border is downright dull by comparison. I shall just have to keep tweaking, either that or revert to the cats.

I finally got to see Maleficent today, it was one that I was genuinely sorry to miss out on in the cinema. I like these kind of films, the combination of visual artistry and musical scores that accompany them. Long before I knew of the films existence I heard ‘Once Upon a Dream’ being sung by Lana Del Ray and fell in love. Only after a little investigation did I find out it was for a forthcoming film.

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t blown away, but I was captivated, so much so that I did not see the time pass. Parts of it reminded me of Avatar,  especially the bioluminescence in the world in which the young Maleficent lived. It’s a retelling of an old story, with a twist. Unfortunately I do not know the original very well, because while I am sure I read the book, I do not believe I watched Sleeping Beauty from start to finish. It’s a keeper though, so it will be added to the DVD collection at some stage.

I also finally cracked under the strain of yet again having to listen to the extremely loud buzzing noise on my parents phone line and rang BT to report it as a fault. I’m guessing it must have been bad when at least two of their operatives asked was I ringing with regards to the buzz on the line. No shit sherlock eh? Only thing is they have no idea what it is, so they are going to have to carry out line testing. I shall hear in approximately 24 – 48 hours. I just hope they remember to ring me back and not the faulty number, which sounds like it’s on it’s way out with the pathetic little half rings it is giving.

A bit like me really, tis bed time, I am not as young as I used to be!

Good night eejits :)

Steve’s Music Mix – Communication

Join Steve doing the funky chicken!

So I know this makes two similar posts in quick succession, but for once I am trying to be a little ahead of myself by doing something on time.

Again, here is a refresher of the rules for Steve’s Musix Mix for this week!

The Blurb

Each week Steve will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

Title your post “Steve’s Music Mix – …” and link back to this week’s page.

Post your response in the comment section of that week’s page.

Have a look at the Archives or click on the “Music Mix” category in the category cloud on this page to see all previous weeks.

Any suggestions for future questions welcomed!

For more information, to submit ideas for future questions or just general feedback go to Steve’s Music Mix.

This weeks questions:

1. Are you a good listener? – The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver by Elbow – This song contains the lyric’s ‘Send up a prayer in my name. Just the same. They say I’m on top of my game’ So I guess that means I must be a good listener right?! I suppose the best people to ask would have to be my friends.
2. Are you a good public speaker – Metropolis by Owl City – Hmmm I would have no desire to publicly speak in front of a whole Metropolis. I actually did public speaking when I was younger for the school Young Farmers Club. We won a Northern Ireland Championship so we must have been the best of a bad bunch. It funny how when you are younger you are less self conscious. I would hate the thought of having to stand up in front of a crowd now.

3. Are you a good writer? – Inside by The Guillemots – That’s pretty accurate. Inside I want to be a really good writer as it’s something I have found I really enjoy. The reality though as far as I am concerned does not match up. I have issues with grammar and spelling, but I am hoping practice will push me towards perfection and if I am entertaining people along the way then I am happy!

If you would like to try this quiz for yourself, then click on the picture at the top to be taken to Steve’s page. He’d love you to tag along and have a go.

Don’t also forget to check out my challenges page which has links to this one and a couple of others that are worth checking out!

Feet Up!

I do love a Monday off, that one extra day tagged onto the weekend.

For once I’m doing nothing of any importance. I’m going to spend the day cleaning up the clutter than seems to gather round me during the week, well after I finish this post and watch ‘The Hotel Inspector’ that is. I like her particular brand of ballsy! Couple that with the fact I’ve put my back out and you’ll forgive me a little R ‘n’ R!

Last night Udders and I had the pleasure of attending ‘Le Maison De La Monkey’ for a slap up Sunday dinner! All I can say is ‘Wow’ and when are we going back! That was a meal and a half. I had to stop myself from licking the plate. The highlight of the whole night however, had to be the sight of Udders, Monkey and Rugette with their arses in the air. Yep, someone broke out the Twister Mat. There is photographic evidence, but I thought I would spare you from that!

Christmas is coming, and it’s coming far to fast for my liking. There are only a few weeks left and there is so so much to do. The task I dread the most is the writing of all my Mother’s cards, same as she is no longer able to herself. My own friends tend to fall by the wayside a little, because after writing so many I just can’t face any more. Last year the task was made easier because I was at home anyway nursing Alien Leg, but this year I am going to have to  fit it in between being back at work full time, cooking and cleaning. Doesn’t leave much time left over! I figure if I guzzle down the rescue remedy we’ll be fine. Fingers crossed!

I have to be honest and say I am not a big Christmas fan. I do love all the lights and the decorated trees, but for many it’s a huge money sucker. I pity parents who feel they have to follow trends when buying presents for their children. Consoles and technology may look like nothing left under a tree, but they cost an absolute fortune and there is no doubt that peer pressure plays a part. I sure wouldn’t want to be paying Santa’s credit card bill!

Still though, as the time gets closer, it’s almost impossible to not get caught up in the festive season. One sniff of cinnamon up the nostrils, the gentle tinkle of a sleigh bell and the twinkle of fairy lights is enough to soften the heart of this Grinch!

I’m cutting down with regards to the presents though, it’s meant to be the time of Peace and Goodwill, not crying in the corner because you can’t make ends meet! Thankfully there are very few of my friends I buy for, we’ll all content with nice cards, anyone want to write mine? *smiles sweetly*

(4) NO CHEATING

This Weeks Questions (which I believe were posed by Anniemation Floe)

1. What would you do if you won the lottery – Settle by Two Door Cinema Club – That’s actually a pretty good response for me, because winning the lottery would help me settle. I could clear all my bills and not have to worry about the future.

2. If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be? – If time is all I have – James Blunt – It is one of the things I would change, I would aim to spend less time worrying and just get on with living!

3. Are you reliable? – Let your love walk in – Paloma Faith – Ummmm, yeah…although I have no idea how that song interprets it. Answers on a postcard please.

If you would like to join in on the Steve’s Music Mix you can read all about it here!

Not that anyone every would (ahem NBI) remember that the ping back is to Steve’s page and not mine!

I’m beginning to think he is a bit of a music prophet as all the answers seem to kinda fit, in a weird way. Here are mine for this week:

What do you think about most often – Breaking the Law – Emile Sande – Ooo I’m a secret wannabe law breaker – Am I feck, I’m too much of a chicken! lol

What is your biggest secret – When I was in your heart – David Gray – Hmm pretty accurate, my longest relationship was my biggest secret.

What is your theme song – People should smile more – Newton Faulkner – Agreed!
