Sure love is great and all that isn’t it, but it’s not for everyone. There are just some people who are destined to be single and it’s looking like I am one of them. I don’t dislike Valentines Day, in fact I love to see my co workers going home, giddy because they are heading out for an evening of romance. I just wish sometimes there was a little less glitter and hairspray involved, my anxiety has an image of their hair catching fire on the accessories for the candle lit dinner. I can just imagine the chat at tea break the next day, ‘I see your boyfriend got you a new hair do for Valentines day, I like how the singed eyebrows match, it suits you!’, said no one ever!
So without further ado, here are 8 reasons why it’s great to be single on Valentines Day.
- You don’t have to buy anyone a present.
It might be just me, but February is always the month where I can still feel the slight pinch from Christmas. It’s good to not have to smash the piggy bank while taxing my brain in the process over what to buy. Who am I kidding, I don’t even have a fecking piggy bank! - You don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant.
In all honesty I’m a cheap date, give me a park bench and a bag of chips over white linen and nouvelle cuisine any day. The introvert in me loves that I didn’t have to get dressed up and people on Valentines Day. - You don’t have to cook a fancy meal because you didn’t go to the fancy restaurant.
I did however have to cook, for a man, but it was the Fathership, does he count? He’ll usually eat whatever is put in front of him, which is just as well because I will never be a Michelin starred Chef. He says it’s tasty and that’s good enough for me. - You don’t have to shave your legs.
You could if you really want to though. I had no one to impress so I was able to just cover it all up with the penguin onesie. Hey, don’t judge, it’s bloody freezing out there. - You don’t have to do the flower shuffle.
There comes a time in your life when you know you are never going to get flowers. It’s quite refreshing when you arrive at that conclusion as it saves you having to improvise when you realise that the Interflora guy is actually not making a beeline for you after all. - You can pick your own movie.
I might not be a girlie girl, but I do love a bit or romance. Luckily for me it’s not until the Return of the King when Aragorn realises that Arwen is still alive, which means a six hour love in with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Pure bliss! - You don’t have to share the snacks!
This needs no further explanation. - You don’t have to share the duvet.
True love is jumping into bed and being able to starfish without the fear of kicking your other half into the wardrobe. It’s also not having to enact a battle of WWE proportions over your own share of the duvet.
So there you have it, being single on February the 14th is not all doom and gloom, but neither is being in love. So to all of you, regardless of your relationship status, Happy Valentines Day 2017!
Happy Valentine’s Day Jules, hope you had a good one…xox

Bushmills Whisky, that usually words, from first sip, through whisky goggles and if all else fails a good nights sleep at the bottom of the bottle. Says me the teetotaller lol

The sleep at the bottom of the bottle would be interesting, the older I get the more sleep is a struggle most nights…..

I’m finding that too, waking in the middle of the night is frustrating, especially when you have to go to work the next day lol

Exactly though it doesn’t help even when you don’t have to work. I’m very good at solitaire at 2am

I tried to make my girl a lava cake.
It was very tasty.
And very very messy.
(Also, she makes every day valentine’s day.)

See that’s what I like. It shouldn’t be just about one day, you need to show them every day! You get gold stars, but umm maybe not for the lava cake lol

Even if I’m not single I get all this. I enjoy the perks of having a guy but I spent 15 years single after the husband and I love control of that f-ing duvet

Personally I think that’s a great relationship. They are there, but not all the time. Hmmm maybe I need me one of those :)
Does that make us duvet diva’s?

We each have our own set of blankets. I have to have mine between my knees and up to my neck, so I don’t share well.

I need a body pillow and a massage ball under my thigh and another one at the back of my neck. Fortunately the Engineer is cool and hands me stray massage balls at 3 am

LOL – had me laughing at the wonderful truths here – and hey, no worries – penguin onesies and all – I still love you – cause baby, when it’s feckin’ cold outside, one snuggles down with the best of the best of cozies, and is content with that – and hey, no rustling or overreaching hands to steal the snacks, no “talk backs” ruining the soundtracks – and yeah, starfish all you want – no worries about that – or pillow drool or wild raccoon eyes after the evening’s romp and the inevitable caked baked mud makeup on your face – and holy hell, face breakout now! Sheesh – best to leave that well enough alone.
Lots of love and hugs and all good things, every day …. so here’s a packet of non-smarmy hearts for you ❤💗💖💕❤💘💕

Thank you for all the hearts, they gave me a warm and gushy feeling, although there is a chance that might have been the drool, which I totally forgot about by the way, good call! lol

I am working on a singles love day in my laboratory. I wanted presentation to be ready in time for V-Day, but it didn’t happen. Just know I’m-a cookin’ someting.
I don’t feel presents are requirements for any holiday. They are gifts, not requisites. Just as we may have talents, but not everybody gets the same level of every talent per required human development. Nor is everyone guaranteed nice parents.
I don’t do fancy restaurants, either, unless I am in that mood. I think budget or fast food can be just as wonderful if you know how to dress up the rest of the day. I can imagine romantic evenings with Big Macs and a candlelit movie at home (especially if the weather/roads are lousy).
Again with the fancy. Who says it has to be fancy? What matters most is pleasing the individuals involved. And, some people don’t like fancy as much as they like what tickles their fancy.
I would not complain if my valentine had hairy legs or anything else hairy. Well, a hairy lip would be a real buzzkill.
Flowers are cliche. And, I don’t like ending flowers lives for a five-minute holiday smile. I’d rather give my valentine a potted flower that will continue to thrive, like our love.
Yea, but movies are more enjoyable, like many trips, as a couple. I like having quiet time with a movie to myself, but discussing movies with someone is just as if not more pleasurable.
I don’t mind sharing snacks as long as certain sanitary rules are followed and we each have enough to eat. :P
So, there you have my two cents. :)
I don’t plan on being single forever. That would be depressing beyond belief. But, I must prepare myself for anything…

Great list! I must say, I’m finding being in this whole “committed singledom” thing with the guy exactly what I want. I have a man in my life when I want him but not in my living room when I don’t want him.

Yeah, I like the idea of that too. You could pioneer this lol

I’m not the first, I’m sure. My aunt and her husband actually lived in different states and would fly to visit each other every 6 weeks or so. They loved each other passionately but about 5 days together in a row was all they could stand.
