Spring Clean time maybe?

I think for me there is a certain time of the year when all things spring clean related start to happen. Now when I say they start to happen, I mean I start to think about it, it doesn’t always happen happen, if you catch my drift. The days are getting longer and the snowdrops in the garden have started to poke through so that gives me hope that spring is on the way.

On this occasion I am actually talking about a spring clean of my blog, so thankfully that’s a task I can do while sitting down, I’m marginally clever sometimes when I want to be, I don’t want to overdo it after all ffs.

I’ve been reading a few posts of late about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to your blog. I kinda think that after 8 years I’ve probably pretty much got all the don’ts covered so perhaps it’s time to cautiously approach the do’s.

The first one I read was about updating the About page, so I thought that’s a good place to start, it’s been a while since I have given it any attention, it does after all say I am in my early 40’s and that is soooo last year, or last 10….oh never mind. So I load it up and have a look and you know what I still like it, and I think to myself how many people will really read it anyway. It’s weird and doesn’t really make much sense, which explains me perfectly I think. I mean if I went right in with the hey there, I’m a 50 year old introvert with mental health issues, I’m not sure anyone would come back. So I’m hoping for a kind of lure them in with a bit of humour and perhaps they will think, wow this is so weird I must come back. Actually, the way I describe it I’d think my about page was awesome, it really isn’t, it’s average at best, but that’s also what you get with this blog, so job done!

Then there are the 566 posts that I have written over the life time of my blog. No one ever scrolls back, or do they? So do I leave them, or do I update them, or do I just go all out full on clean and delete them, banished forever to the trash can full of spam comments. I haven’t thought that far ahead as yet, because to be honest with the little bit I have managed so far, like changing the picture on the about page, my age and the year for the copywrite, I’m about worn out and ready to collapse into a comfortable chair with a cup of coffee and a tube of Smarties.

That said, in 2022 I also hope to do a spring clean of my mind, so expect more posts…..maybe :)

Spring is in the Air!

I can’t stop singing ‘Once Upon a Dream’ by Lana Del Rey. It’s got itself firmly stuck in my gray matter and bursts forth at the most inopportune moments, like while I am in the kitchen making my lunch as workmen rewire the ceiling outside. Emerging to a round of applause was…umm…embarrassing.

It was nice heading into work this morning with a little sunshine beaming from the sky. Spring is certainly walking towards us, but the nip in the air only serves to prove that it is not taking quick steps. Hard to believe that March is almost over.

Normally I don’t like the lighter nights, but this year I am enjoying the gentle stretch, it’s making me feel a little more energized. I now understand the saying ‘Spring Clean’, because that’s what I want to be doing every night. Sadly time, lack of funds and the fact that the house is not mine firmly put the brakes on that little endeavour. Add to that the fact that as soon as I tidy anything the whirlwind that is the ‘Mothership’ wrecks it, I lose heart and give up. I lost count over the weekend of how many times I used the phrase ‘F*ck it’, but it was an awful lot. Stress levels were high.

In a bid to assist with the housework I purchased a ‘Steam Mop’ as after conducting a survey of 100 random people I was assured it was the gadget of the moment. I ordered it online at the cost of £59.99. I rationalised it by adding up how much I pay on detergent and mop heads, said ‘F*ck it’ (again) and hit purchase.
It arrived and I was mildly excited at the prospect of this piece of kit revolutionising my cleaning regime. I even considered (very briefly) donning an apron and marigolds to complete my look, but that all went out the window when I saw the sticker on the front of the box. WTF!?! £60 reduced to £49.99, a whole ten new pounds less than I actually paid!

In normal circumstances I would not usually pursue something like that, being a big Ginny Ann and all, but ten quid is ten quid and it’s better in my pocket, so I fired off an e-mail to ask had I either received the wrong product or only been charged the lesser price. I have had an acknowledgement e-mail, but no reply to date, I shall keep you informed.
The steam mop itself is not a bad bit of kit, and it’s certainly more therapeutic than using a mop and bucket, just don’t pay any more than £49.99 if you want to keep your stress levels to a minimum!!

I really need to Spring Clean!

I’ve been saying it for almost a year now, especially with being off with alien leg, I had the perfect opportunity, but as usual I never got around to it.

I have a whole cupboard that has no available space at all due to the fact that it is crammed with stuff I meant to put on Ebay. Some of it has been there so long I’d probably be better trying Antiques Roadshow.

I’ve also decided that it’s time to get rid of my old PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. I have to face the fact that I am not going to play them anymore. I had always entertained the vain hope of buying a second hand PS2 and rekindling my love, but the truth is I just don’t have the time. It’s better to pass them on to someone who will get enjoyment from them.

It’s definitely an odd little collection of games. Most of them I have not even played. I guess my most prized possessions of them all have to be Shadow Hearts and ICO.

I searched long and hard for them both as by the time I had been made aware of their existence they were both already rare. ICO I pretty much gave up on completely, the £60 used price was a little over budget even for an enthusiast. One day in a game shop I asked if by chance they had any used copies and was informed by the sales clerk the game was to be re released. This was in 2006. ICO was the first game to actually take my breath away graphically, it was love at first sight.

Shadow Hearts proved a lot more difficult, it also had a hefty second hand price tag that I could not justify. It took a lot of auction watching, bidding and middle of the night auctions before I was actually lucky enough to pick up a copy. Then as luck would have it I ended up with two almost at the same time.

Other games I have loved and collected include the original Bubble Bobble ft Rainbow Islands for the PS1, I lost count of the number of hours that kept us entertained until we finally reached the end.

Pandemonium was another one, a quirky and colourful platformer.

The list goes on……

It’s sad to have to get rid of them, but times move on. There is no point in them sitting here gathering dust while someone else could be playing them.

It’s kinda like saying goodbye to little members of your family though, they have kept me company and entertained for such a long time!
