Week 2 of Seven Weeks of Weird

7weird

It’s the day after hump day, and also the second week of the 7 weeks of weird challenge. I’m a day late, but as someone rather intelligent once said, ‘better late than never’. Mental Mama, please forgive me, I will be on time next week, honest!!

Weirdest thing about you that other people don’t usually know.

I did look at this question last night and I thought long and hard about it, my brain even hurt a little. The conclusion I came to, well I couldn’t actually think of anything weird about me that people don’t already know, it just seems to be universally accepted that I am a little off kilter sometimes.

So here instead are five weird facts about me that I am sure someone out there does not know:

  • I don’t take Sugar in tea or coffee – This seems to amaze people. They assume, albeit wrongly, that because I am on the slightly larger scale of the spectrum that I must have about 5 spoonfuls of the sweet stuff per cup. My answer of ‘I don’t take sugar thanks’, was always met with a ‘Really?!’. I used to answer with ‘Yes, I’m sweet enough’ but these days it’s ‘yes, because clearly I am fat enough!’
  • My Favourite Film is a Cartoon – I don’t mean a Disney or Pixar cartoon. I mean a cartoon of CGI quality born from a Video game. Final Fantasy: Advent Children, is my most watched film ever, with The Lord of the Rings Trilogy coming in a close second.
  • I’m addicted to Stationary – I LOVE stationary, like I mean, I really LOVE stationary. I have lost count of how many notebooks and pens are knocking about my abode, but you can rest assured that only a few will have any writing in them.
  • My grammar is terrible!! – But you’ll know that anyway if you read my blog.
  • I’m a virgin – Virgin on the ridiculous that is! (I just threw that one in to see if you were still awake!)

So there you have it, I might be weird, but it feels wonderful! :)

Simpleek gave me the idea for this post with one of her tweets.

Spent most of my Sunday jumping from one game to the next.

There was more to it than that, but this single line got me thinking, how amazing would it be if we actually could jump in and out of games as the characters we know and love.

Anyone who games will know how easy it is to become  immersed in the beautiful worlds portrayed with pixels onto our screens, to become intricately involved with the characters and lost in the fantasy landscapes  that stretch as far as the eye can see.

It almost makes the task of choosing just one character seem like an impossible one.

Sure I could be Lara Croft, with her short shorts, killer curves and amazing skill set, but no, I would want to be Tifa Lockhart.

It seems like such a long time since I was  first introduced to Tifa in Final Fantasy VII. I loved her even then with her small cartoon like appearance making her no less formidable, however, for me she really came into her own in Final Fantasy Advent Children. She stepped into the screen as a woman, and one not to be messed with.

Graphics have improved immensely since the days of Final Fantasy and CGI has been kind to Tifa.  She evolved, and emerged as a lean, mean fighting machine, her black clothes hugging a figure to rival Lara Crofts. Tifa however does not ooze sex appeal (although I am sure most guys would disagree), she exudes a steely determination, which is much more appealing.

Cloud and Tifa – Final Fantasy Advent Children

I always felt slightly sorry for her and what I perceived to be her quiet love for Cloud. I entertained the vain hope they would get together, but alas it was never be to. She was after all pitted against Aeirth, and who could fail to love her.

Aeirth Gainsborough, Rinoa Heartilly, Yuffie and Yuna to name but a few. All strong female characters from the Final Fantasy Series, however for me, Tifa holds the top spot.

I could quite easily kick back and relax with Barret, Yuffie, Reeve, Vincent, Cid and the rest of the Advent Children favourites while lusting after Cloud from afar, sounds like a damn fine day to me!

So, if you choose be any character to game hop into, who would it be and why?

Only a half smile for the Hobbit!

So last night I finally got around to watching The Hobbit.

Most people I am acquainted with know that the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Final Fantasy Advent Children are my two favourite films of all time. They are the only films that I have watched more than 5 times each, but yet still continue to find new details in each time I do.

I was captivated with Lord of the Rings. I’d not read the books at that stage so I was looking at everything with fresh eyes. I fell in love with the scenery, the characters and the weaving storyline. I felt cheated when the first movie ended and I realised I was going to be forced to wait a whole year for the second instalment, and likewise when it ended and I had to wait for the third.

Now I have the DVD’s, marvellous invention, I find I cannot watch one without having to watch the other two as well.

I have to admit that sometimes this tomboy is a shameless girl, as I always cry in the third movie when the Eagles rescue Frodo and Sam from the mountain after they have destroyed the ring and while being crowned as King Aragorn realises Arwen is still alive. I have also made it known that I want Into the West played at my funeral when it is my turn to shuffle off this mortal coil!

So I was excited to see the Hobbit.

The trailer was a teaser indeed as it had left me wanting more, but it was a long wait until the films actual release date. When the time came I was still recovering from the knee surgery and didn’t feel ready to go to the cinema, preferring instead to wait for the DVD release. When DVD release date came I decided not to buy it just yet and opted to rent it from Blinkbox instead. It had been sitting in my library section there for about 2 weeks until yesterday, it’s just not easy finding a spare 3 hours these days.

I watched it and found I was disappointed, but I am not sure I can tell you why I was, because I am not really sure myself. Although the music is still by and large the same as LOTR, the scenery and the effects as visually stunning and there are characters we have encountered before, it just lacked a certain something for me. Don’t get me wrong it was watchable and I enjoyed it as I am sure I will the others, but I don’t know if at this stage I would be rushing to buy it or watch it again.

I didn’t fall in love with the new characters. I smiled when I saw Frodo, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel and awww’d when I saw the Eagles, but I felt that’s what I was doing, I was waiting for flashes of Lord of the Rings and they were just not there. Most of the actors have been in various other things I have watched and they are all amazing actors, but I wondered if this was also part of the problem, I am to used to them being in other things and found it difficult to differentiate between the two.

So while I may have been disappointed, that should not take away from the fact that this is a visually stunning treat which will no doubt reap rewards.

Perhaps I will fall in love a little more with each instalment. Only time will tell!
